Kane the Manipulator

When you awaken, you are still splayed across the bed, still held tightly by the ropes. As the room comes into focus, you realize that you are not alone. A strange man stands at the foot of the bed. He seems rather odd, dressed entirely in black except for his gray coat. His black hair is thick and matted, and hangs down over his face farther on the left than the right. Upon seeing you awaken, he grins. "About time you came round," he intones smoothly.

You are understandably shocked and confused. "What? Who are you? What is all this?"

The man simply chuckles. "I guess you do deserve an explanation. My name is Alfonse Kane, expert in the mind and virtual systems. You are being held in my Virtual Realm, where you have been ever since I brought you here in your sleep about a day ago."

You are a bit stunned at this, but it would explain the recent strange occurrences, such as your transformation and the house of living objects. "Why?" you ask, "Why did you do all this? Why did you bring me here?"

Kane grins, as though having expected this question. "I am running an experiment, and you are here because you are my test subject. You see, I have done much research on the mind and its connection to the other aspects of the being, such as the body, or the instinct. The area that most intrigued me was that of the manipulation of the mind. I noticed that one question that was posed over and over again was that of the body's influence over the mind, specifically, can one alter the mind by altering the body? I have done research and experiments that determine that the answer is no, a sapient mind is not influenced at all by the other aspects of the being, at least on a conscious level; the physical body has no influence over the sapient mind whatsoever.

"However, I have also found that the mind is easily influenced, and can be altered, just not by tampering with the other aspects of the being. That which we call the mind is essentially composed of our collective brainwave patterns. The brainwaves can be read to determine thoughts, emotions, etc, but the reverse is also true. Control the brainwaves, control the mind. And since you are in my virtual world, controlling your brainwaves is a simple task. Allow me to demonstrate,"

Kane removes from his pocket what looks like a remote control, with many small buttons and dials (though it is difficult for you to see as you are still bound to the bed). Kane pushes a button on the remote, and the ropes binding you vanish into thin air. Before you can react, Kane starts fiddling with the remote. As he does, you find yourself suddenly sitting up, on the side of the bed. Kane continues fiddling with the remote, and you feel yourself stand up. Without willing it, you walk over to the large mirror and look at yourself in it. You are a little put off looking at the female-you in the mirror, but can do nothing about it. Kane, who has positioned himself behind you so that his reflection is visible as well, adjusts his remote, and even as he does, you can feel your discomfort fading. You see in the mirror that you have made for a good-looking girl, small but not too small, not overly-proportioned yet still enough to be attractive, with soft, shoulder-length brown hair and azure eyes. The nervousness and discomfort you know you should feel is at a minimal, you now feel attractive, and proud of it. In the mirror, you see Kane grin. "As you can tell, my Controller lets me control your emotions as well as your actions."

His demonstration complete, Kane releases the emotional control, allowing your annoyance at this form to return, and forces you to walk back over to the bed. This time, the ropes extend from the posts themselves before attaching themselves to you as before, once again holding you spread out on the bed. By this point, you are understandably frightened. "What are you going to do to me?" you ask, fearfully.

Kane grins. "I am going to test the strength of your will, your ability to resist mental manipulation. I'm afraid I cannot reveal the nature of the tests or it will screw up the data. And once the test is complete, well, you'll just have to wait and see." And with that, Kane adjusts the Controller once more, and you begin to fall asleep once more. Just before it goes dark, you see Kane vanish, seemingly into thin air.
