So Far, So Good

Feeling both charitable and curious, you offer to help but ask the obvious. "I can give you something to eat," you say, "but I really must ask: what accounts for your unusual tail and legs?"

The boy blushes. "I always have been different," he says, "but no one ever told me why. I grew up in a church, and no one there knew what to do with me. Finally, I decided that I was a burden, so I left. Besides, I never was happy there."

The boy speaks with remarkable candour, and you feel great empathy for him. He seems upbeat, however, so you hesitate to throw him a pity party. You lead him to your house, and he follows behind you merrily.
