Calm Down!

"Calm down! Calm down!" says the squirrel.

"How am I supposed to calm down? I'm talking to a thing that can change shape!"

Even as you watch, the creature flickers again. This time, it has become an atractive female river otter. Coming carefully toward you, she lays her head against your chest and purrs. You think it bizarre, but all tension and fear evaporates as the sound drives it away.

"How did you do that?" you ask.

"Each body has special talents in keeping with the history it is copied from. That's not important right now, though. I have a big problem, and I need your help badly!"

"What sort of problem?"

"My vehicle, the one I use for traveling sideways in time, has suffered some major damage. I'm stuck here in this timeline."

"So what do you need me to do?"

"I'm so glad you asked!" replies the otter.
