A brief explanation

"The Mikado" was an operetta by W.S. Gilbert and Sir Arthur Sullivan that was ostensibly set in Japan but actually satirized English society. It is their most popular collaboration, and has recently been featured in the movie "Topsy-Turvy", which was centered around its production. A good place to go for context for future story entries would be http://diamond.boisestate.edu/gas, the Gilbert and Sullivan Archive. It's a free web, so you can go ahead and write irrelevant or atmosphere-breaking entries, but it would be much better if we tried to make an interactive story based on Gilbert's unique world.

A few notes:

Koko, despite his intimidating title, is not a villain. He is an inept, wimpy comic role.

The music for "Behold the Lord High Executioner" can be found at the Gilbert and Sullivan Archive's midi page.

Feel free to alter Gilbert's script. This is an INTERACTIVE story, after all. I won't see it as sacrilege, although some Savoyards will.

Thank you for your time. Now please back up with your browser and continue the story.
