I Dreamed of Africa

Beams and floorboards crack and splinter, and the floor gives way. For a split second you plummet through the air. Before you can draw half a breath, however, you hear a thunderous splash, and you find yourself ... underwater? Your eyes snap open. Yes. You are underwater.

The water is cool and murky but not salty. You appear to be in a large lake. For a moment you thrash your ponderous limbs about frantically, but then an odd sensation of calm runs through your body. You don't know why, but being submerged fills you with a sense of ... safety.

You think about rising, and before you know it your head breaks the surface of the lake. Eyes, ears, and nostrils are exposed to the air while the rest of your bulk remains safely hidden. You exhale mightily, sending twin plumes of mist rocketing skyward. You finally get a good look at your surroundings: clear blue sky, blazing sun, grassy plains, distant mountains. The images quickly coalesce in your mind to form a single overriding thought: Africa.
