Reflections on Shape-Shifting

As you round the corner, you see her standing before you, facing you, defiant, triumphant even.

"And now, for the finishing touch," she says with a grin.

You feel your serpentine body slowing down. You feel yourself stiffening. An ophidian hiss escapes your mouth like the sound of escaping steam. Your forked tongue probes the air, then stops. Your bones have turned to lead. The scales of your skin have merged and hardened, and your reptilian eyes stare fixed, sightless, and glassy.

And now, deep in your bowels, a new sensation begins to build.
