Not the likely pet.

As your vision corrects itself, you notice that you actually haven’t changed at all. What you were seeing was a rat on top of you with a brown shade of fur. “ARRG! I’m a rat", he seems to chatter, your altered brain, creatively interpreting the noises coming from the rodent's muzzle, "I’m gonna kill you!” With all the strength that a rat has, it charges you. You turn and run. After running for quite a while, you come to a small crack. It is big enough for a mouse, but too small for a rat; perfect. You leave the angry rat in the wall and run into the hallway.

"You're twenty-nine minutes late!"

You look up and see a scientist woman talking to a boy. In fact, he looks familiar. He’s you! Those dirty squirrels tricked you! They set you up! They probably turned you into a mouse and turned one of their own into you so they could infiltrate the building. You’re in no position, or body, to do something about it, so you attempt to get back to the tree before you get stepped on. Before you can leave, however, an older-looking woman picks you up. She carries you to her desk and puts you in a small cage. She moves her wrinkled face to the clear wall.

“Hello there. My name’s Doris. What’s yours?”, she asks you.

Poor old woman, you think, her job must be so lonely that she’s forced to talk to animals. Feeling sorry for her, you decide to answer. “My name’s John”, you say, worried that your words will send her off the deep end.

“That’s nice, John.” Apparently this woman is unfazed by the fact that you, a mouse, can talk. She goes about her duties as receptionist while you sit and watch. She hands you a cracker to eat, which you take in your mouth and run off with to another part of the cage.

“Now go before the older version of the Serum we used starts to affect your mind.” The squirrel’s words pop into your head. But if he lied about not having any more Serum, then was he lying about that, too? You may not have much time. With Doris as the only person to help you, what will you do?
