Mind-altered parents

"No can do," the brunette replies, shaking her head and wearing an evil grin on her face. "I have a better plan."

She starts pressing buttons on the device. You think about taking a dive for her and trying to wrestle the device away. Before you can do anything, though, you suddenly freeze in place. Unlike your parents, you are still aware of what is going on; you`re just not able to act.

"Sorry, Evan . . . er, Yvette," she laughs. She gives you a quick kiss on your pouty lips, then fades away. A few seconds later, you and your parents start moving freely again.

"Yvette, sweetie," your mother says softly. Her tone of voice has become disturbingly gentle and calm.

"Yes?" you reply, expecting the worst.
