Dad's Home

As you sit there, wondering what to do, there is a loud knock on the door. You scramble to the entryway and peer out the eye-hole. Thankfully, it's your dad. Well, you think, time to get this over with... You take a deep breath and open the door.

Your dad, being a secrent agent, is not one to be easily shaken, but the sight before his eyes is more than enough. You can smell the shock on him, plain as day. You grab him by the shoulder and hustle him inside, shutting the door behind you. He stands there for a moment before regaining his senses. "Who are you?" he frowns. "And where is my son?"

"Dad," you say, "it's me."

"Son? Is that really..." His voice trails off for a moment before he asks, "What happened?"

You relate the experience to him, starting with Scott's visit and ending when you got home from the park. You decide to leave out the bit about the mental changes for now.

Your dad straightens himself up and regains his composure. "Well, Son," he says, "I haven't the faintest clue what is going on. What I think we should do is have you inspected by one of the agency's medical examiners. They are, quite simply, the best of the best. I'll call them, and we should have an appointment by tomorrow morning, at the latest."

You consent to the plan, and your dad heads off to his room to make the call. You remain in the living room, but your sensitive new ears can hear every word. "Look," he says, "if I told you the symptoms you wouldn't believe me, but trust me, this is really important." You ponder that. He's right, you realize. What if this is happening to other people?

After a half-hour of arguing with someone back at headquarters, your dad walks in. "Appointment's tomorrow at seven, Son," he says. "Get packed. We're going to fly out to headquarters in an hour and spend the night there."

You nod and head up to your room. You pack a couple books to read on the flight, and some clothes. Then you and your dad drive out to the airport.
