Nothing as It Seems

You hear nothing, so you blow harder. Still nothing. Why would the old man have put defective merchandise in your attaché case? He may be able to teleport you to some fancy hotel, but he can't even make a kid's whistle that works. As you mull this over, there is another knock at the door. You look through the peephole and see a bellboy with a plate of steaming creamed chipped beef. You let him in this time.

"You again?" you ask with a laugh.

"Yeah, me again," responds the bellboy. "This is gonna go to waste if no one eats it soon, so you can have it even if you didn't order it."

"Thank you," you tell him; "just set it down on the table. Do you have a minute?"

"I have all night," answers the bellboy, "within reason, of course. What is it? If you wanna split the food, thanks but no thanks."

"I wanted to show you this piece of junk that my new employer gave me to sell. Watch this," you instruct before blowing into the whistle. Again, you hear nothing, but the bellboy screams. "What's the big idea?" he asks, grabbing you tightly by the collar. "That really hurt!" When he opens his mouth, you notice that it is occupied by long, sharp teeth and a substantially longer, flatter tongue. Maybe the whistle does work, after all.
