Into the Depths

A wooden trapdoor is revealed under the smashed pedestal. While the others work to clear off the rubble, you take Drakk aside to speak to him quietly. Having decided that he should know the truth if he wants to 'indebt' himself to you, you tell him everything. About how you were once a normal male, and about your transformation, culminating in your taking 'Rachel' as a pseudonym and your venture to the haunted house. You stress to him the importance of maintaining the false identity in public. All of this Drakk seems to take in stride, without even flinching, which isn't so surprising when you consider that he's half lizard.

Drakk agrees to go along with it, reminding you once again that he is eternally in your dept for freeing him from his prison (which you learn he was in for 30 years). He tells you that should you so desire, he will assist you as best he can in turning back to normal, a proposition you agree to most heartily.

And with that, Drakk turns and heads over to the trapdoor, where the others seem to be having trouble with the lock, a problem Drakk fixes by plowing his powerful fist through it. With the door now open, you can see a set of cold gray stone steps, leading down into blackness. Seeing no better alternative, you decide to head down. Drakk heads down first, remaining close to you and insisting you hold onto his tail "just in case." The rest of the group follows.

When you reach the bottom of the steps, torches flare up revealing an entire stone hallway now lit up by torches placed at regular intervals on the walls. You follow the hallway, Drakk remaining perpetually just in front of you, and eventually come to a large room vaguely resembling a fantasy dungeon. More torches light up, revealing the entire room:

On the right wall, another hallway extends several yards, ending in a small alcove containing a marble pedestal with a glowing white light. However, the floor of the hall is recessed, forming a pit, and is filled with what appears to be worms. On the left, there is an opening about twice as wide and about as high as a standard door. Whatever lies beyond it is shadowed in pitch black. A red semicircle is painted on the floor centered about the opening, with each end extending 6 feet from the opening. You hear odd noises coming from inside. On the far wall, there is an imposing set of double doors with a carving of a demon as the knocker/doorknob. The doors seem to give off an odd essence. There is an odd rune carved on the upper portion of both doors. On the far left corner, a stone staircase leads up into the shadows, and another leads down into the shadows on the far right corner.

There is a small square table in the center, upon which rests another scroll. Mike takes it and reads it aloud. "In the inner sanctum, traps abound. Choices are many, but all have their price. Good luck - you will need it." And at that point, the scroll vanishes in a burst of flame.

After a long discussion about where to go, it eventually comes out that the group is evenly divided among the choices. You are unsure, and Drakk refuses to make any choice other than backing you up. Of the boys, Mike and Chris want to go through the left opening, Will and Ryan want to go through the demonic doors, and James and Jake want to go to the pedestal on the right. Of the girls, Amy and Melissa want to go back up on the left staircase, and Becky and Melissa want to take the right staircase.

That means it is left completely up to you to decide which choice to make. After much contemplation, you decide...
