Fairground Wager

Fred and Albert buy the funnel cake and some sodas. As they eat you feel the wave of satisfaction, along with that over everyone around you. Your friends also have questions about this new sense of yours. "So is it like... you taste when we enjoy things?" Asks Fred.

"It's not a taste, or a smell, or... anything I can explain, but I guess it's kinda like that." you say, "I can't really put it into words. But it's like the demon said, it's different for everyone and changes, but it's... enjoyable to be around."

"So this is like a buffet here." Says Albert, chewing on a mouthful of cake.

"No, it's not like eating, more like... a scented bath?" you say, trying of correlate it with something. "Weird right?"

"Well, it is a demon thing." Says Fred, "Oh hey, you got to do the test of strength," he suddenly says as he sees someone trying to hit the bell with the hammer, and grabs your hand and drags you over to it.

"Hold up, this is my specialty," says Albert, swallowing the rest of his cake and running over to take up the hammer first. He takes it and swings it hard, the paddle flying up and hitting the bell with a satisfying 'ding'. Albert looks proud. "Don't be disappointed if you can't get it, you have gone down a few sizes." he says.

Fred looks at you, his face mischievously jovial as he knows something Albert doesn't. "I think he can do it, he's not that small." he says, hiding his enthusiasm.

"You've gone blind?" Says Albert.

"You want to bet on it?" says Fred.

"It's an easy win for me," he replies.

"Prove it," says Fred, "Win or lose, the loser will...." he looks around for something as an appropriate wager, "Aha... the loser will sign up for the pie eating contest." he says, spotting a sign with the times.

"Hope you brought your appetite," says Albert, grinning and throwing you the hammer. Fred gives you a knowing glance. smiling internally, you pick up the hammer, pretending to struggle with it and letting it fall backwards, then dragging it across the ground towards the level. Albert laughs, convinced he's got this in the bag.

Then you lift and swing the hammer, and the paddle flies up like a rocket, actually denting the bell, leaving Albert's jaw wide open. You walk away, holding the hammer in one hand and whistling nonchalantly. Fred bursts out laughing, and Albert looks at you, "You little sneak." he says, his face disapproving, but in a 'yeah, you got me' kind of way.

"Fine, looks like I've got a date with some pies," he says in a grudging, but good natured tone.
